This room was an absolute delight to work on. Our clients wanted to create a cozy second living space with a western vibe. Their only big request was for us to find Longhorns to hang over the fireplace. Other than that they were open to anything, so we went big and bold and decided to do a modern twist on a western theme . The end result was a feel that our clients likened to Hotel Drover. The room started out with white walls and a white fireplace. We knew we needed to warm things up so we chose a lovely shade of green by Benjamin Moore called "Newburg Green". This rich color immediately set the tone for the room.
We purchased the Longhorns from a company called "Skull Bliss" and were stunned at the beauty of them when they arrived. They were the perfect size and color and became the gentle focal point of the room. We then styled the top of the mantel very simply with two distressed terra-cotta urns so as not distract from the Longhorns (as a rule though, we prefer a more minimalistic mantel when it is flanked by built-ins).
We styled the built-in shelves with neutral tones and mixed materials like wood, iron, ceramic, linen, and leather. While the color palette of the shelves is more subdued, by using different textures we were still able to create depth and interest.
The Pottery Barn pillows for the two armchairs were one of our favorite purchases. Quality pillows do have a higher price tag, but they are powerful pieces that have the ability to transform a chair, sofa, or bed. We always try to incorporate at least two into each room the we design.
This project was a dream from start to finish. Creative liberty is powerful and inspiring and we are deeply grateful to our client for trusting us, and trusting the process.
